Being Thankful   November 24th, 2008

Last week in a staff meeting, I reminded our staff about the ten lepers who were “cleansed” by Jesus in Luke 17I told of visiting a leper`s village in Brazil with my oldest son on his 13th birthday. Boy, did these lepers ever need to be “cleansed”.  They were living on the side of the Amazon River in rags. There were hundreds of them. They were so poor. Most had already lost fingers, noses and toes… with lots of dead skin remaining along with the odor of dirty skin. We walked with them to their church where we were to conduct a service.  Between the heat, the smell and seeing the missing parts, it was a hard walk.

When they found out that my son was 13 that day, they decided they wanted to give him gifts. One by one they stood and hit the pages of their Bibles with fingerless hands in order to turn to the verse they wanted to share with him for his birthday. Then they would stand and read it out loud to him. Neither of us has forgotten that day.

The ten lepers in Luke`s story all left cleansed, but one came back to say “Thank you” and he was made well. I think he had his missing parts restored while the other nine just had their dead skin removed. What a difference that “Thank you” made.

God loves it when we say thank you to Him and to others. Can I encourage you to pick a person each day to thank for what they mean to you? Just one person that you can acknowledge to let them know you care. Maybe that daily process will make us all well.

Have some wonderful, thankful holidays!

Prayer   November 13th, 2008

Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.” Prayer is a powerful tool that God has given us to help one another. He loves it when we talk to Him! Whether you pray 20 times a day of just once, your prayers really do matter. Is there anything or anybody God has laid on your heart to pray for today? Maybe it`s someone in your family, a friend or a coworker. Or maybe you want someone to pray for you. WCLQ, a station that airs Beyond The Call has a new blog dedicated solely to prayer. You can read other people`s prayer requests and pray for them and then submit your own.  You can check it out on their website:  http://www.89q.org/prayerblog.html

Station Developement Director   November 10th, 2008

Name: Jamey

Station:: WHIF 91.3 Hope FM

Well, being aware of how God is continously taken out of our public schools. A couple of local church youth leaders and myself began a bible study and prayer meeting, at our local High School. It’s called “Youth for Christ”. Every Tuesday morning before school we meet in the school (with their permission) and invite youth to attend. The three of us lead in rotation each week. A few students at first, now 15 - 20 students attend, young people from all denominations are hearing about Christ. I was blessed to share the message one particular morning, the talk was about other beliefs and how they compare to Christianity. On this morning one of the students attending is “mormon”. She challenged everything I had to say regarding mormon v/s Christianity. I gave her a Teen NLT Study Bible and asked her to read John 14:6. I was’nt sure she would return the following week. Praise God she has not missed a week since.
We have extended to one of our local Middle Schools and recently been invited to a second Middle School to share the gospel during the lunch period each week. I have also been able to promote 91.3 Hope FM Christian Radio and Programming,as well as recruited station volunteers. We are called as messengers to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I did’nt plan for that particular message, it had to be God speaking to her.
Always be ready to share Jesus:)

Calling the community to prayer   November 10th, 2008

Name: Robin

Station:: WHIF

Prior to the election a couple of praying ladies came to our radio station and asked for help in calling people of our community together. We put them on the radio and talked about the need for praying for our community and our nation. A pastor came in and offered his church for a weekly prayer meeting. From there it snowballed, churches all over our county were opening their doors and inviting people to come pray. It ended in a standing-room-only community prayer gathering the night before the election that was broadcast live on our radio station, which is a beginning to future prayer gatherings for our community and national leaders. We were overwhelmed with gratitude for God’s great presence and for bringing people together of all races and denominations with a common goal of seeking Him. Since then we’ve been inspired to host other events and it’s given us a great connection to Christians in the community we didn’t know before.
